Health Minister, Adewole Bans Chloroquine For Malaria Treatment

The Federal Government of Nigeria has banned the use of chloroquine and artemisinin monotherapy for the treatment of malaria. The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, who made this announcement, stated that about N300bn was being lost annually by the Federal Government in the treatment and prevention of the disease. According to him, the losses were incurred in government’s efforts to tackle the scourge in the country. Adewole spoke on Tuesday in Abuja, during the commemoration of this year’s World Malaria Day. Speaking on the theme, “End Malaria for Good: What is your Role?” The minister said, “With a new emphasis on citizen accountability and rights, I want you as a Nigerian citizen to challenge your health care provider and ask questions. “When you have malaria and somebody wants to prescribe drugs for you, ask the health care provider: ‘Have you confirmed this is malaria?’ It is your right. “As a citizen when your healthcare provider prescribes chloroquine or arte

Federal Government has said that President Muhammadu Buhari from now operate from home. Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the meeting of the Federal Executive Council, FEC on Wednesday said that the President needed some rest and has asked that all the files on his table be brought to him at his official residence at the Presidential Villa, Abuja for treatment. OMG! Ghanaian Police Officer Commits Suicide After She Was Dumped By Her Fiancé

A female police officer in Ghana has killed herself after her lover who promised to marry her ended their relationship. The Garu-Tempane District Police Commander ASP Alexander Tieku has confirmed to that 31-year Constable Peace Agbemafo committed suicide because someone jilted her. “This is about the second time she has been jilted by someone. Somebody promised to marry her but later disappointed her and she killed herself. We have informed the family and we are waiting for them to come so we conduct the post mortem and convey the body to the police hospital mortuary in Accra for preservation”, he disclosed when our reporter enquired if the Peace had some relationship problems. Akure Residents Scoop Fuel From A Fallen Tanker (photos)

Hundreds of residents and traders on Saturday, trooped out to scoop fuel from a petrol tanker which fell at the busy Isinkan Roundabout in Akure, the Ondo State capital and spilled its content.The accident happened at about 7 am.The driver of the tanker was said to be on his way to the NNPC petrol station in Akure to dislodge its content when the accident occurred. Man Kills Okada Rider In Katsina Over Inability To Pay N100 Fare (Photo)

A forty-year-old man, Isiya Inusa, on Thursday, confessed that he killed an okada rider because of his inability to pay the N100 fare. Isiya, who spoke in Hausa at the headquarters of Katsina State Police Command where he was paraded, said he attacked the rider along Kankara-Kabuki Road, in Katsina. He said, “Yes, I slaughtered him with my knife. I asked him to take me to Kabuki village from Kankara. He demanded N100 as fare. I did not tell him I did not have that money on me. “On the way, I brought out my knife and slaughtered him. The police later arrested me while riding on his (the victim) motorcycle.” Police sources gave the name of the victim as Al -Hasan Usani, aged 43. It was further learnt that Isiya actually tricked Al-Hasan into taking him to Kabuki village with a view to snatching the motorcycle.

EFCC Raids Danjuma Goje's Home In Abuja (Photos)

Operatives of the anti-graft EFCC this evening raided the Abuja home of Danjuma Goje, a former governor of Gombe State, The operation, which began after 5:00 p.m. was still ongoing as at 7:01 p.m. Their correspondents report that at least 12 vehicles, including about eight police vans were stationed outside the building. At least 25 mobile police officers were sighted outside the building, located on Haile Selassie Street, Asoroko. About half a dozen EFCC detectives were also seen standing outside, with even more likely to be inside.

Church Receives N42Million Tithe From An Anonymous Donor in Markurdi.

Church in Makurdi Receives N42 Million Tithe from a Donor Who Requested To Remain Anonymous A tithe donor whose identity has been made anonymous by a local church, NKST Church, ‘Non go Kristu U Sudan hen Tiv’ (which means, the Church of Christ Amongst the Tiv) in Makurdi, Benue State, shocked church members when they offered N42 million to the church as a tithe. The tithe was reportedly paid into the church’s UBA bank account.  When some church members heard of the tithe, they told other members of the church of who got annoyed that the church got such donation while their salaries hadn't been paid by the Government for many months. The main reason residents got aggravated by the tithe was because they believed the donor was a government official. Ebonyi Demotes Five Head Teachers For Exam Malpractise

Three officials of the Ministry of Education in Ebonyi State have been sanctioned for their alleged involvement in examination malpractice during the 2016 Senior Schools Certificate Examination (SSCE). Five head teachers were demoted to classroom teachers. Commissioner for Education Prof. John Ekeh announced this while addressing reporters. The sanction followed the report of the examination body, which indicted 20 schools and some officials of complicity. According to Ekeh, five head teachers have been demoted while 25 teachers and supervisors will be paid half salaries for three months. He noted that 15 private schools indicted in the report will not participate in SSCE for one year and they will pay a fine of N100,000 to deter others.
